The Politics of Coming Together with Charlie McCallie
For too long I’ve had my head in the sand when it comes to politics. I was ignorant, wanting to think my faith and political opinions were totally separate. Not to mention, I didn’t want to have political conversations because they are out of my area of expertise and even interests.
Politics can be both divisive and overwhelming to talk about especially when one adds religion into the mix.
So what changed for me? Over the last four years, I started to figure out just how much my position of privilege in our country afforded me the luxury of NOT talking politics. By and large, the system works for me. I assumed faith and politics were best left as separate entities wherein never the two shall meet!
I assumed Jesus dealt with the spiritual not the political. How wrong I was?
Leaving “empire mentality” and entering desert spirituality is an ongoing waking up process that includes waking up to POLITICS! It includes getting CURIOUS about the intersection of faith and politics.
The real question becomes –– How does your faith inform your politics?
